Cutting means shaving a material using a blade to make it into a required size or shape. Our company uses blades to cut from resin called film, blocks, and round bars.
Cutting allows us to produce parts with complex shapes because we can achieve fine dimensional accuracy and cut a variety of shapes. For simple shapes, mass production is our specialty because it does not require much time and cost, but for complex shapes, time and cost are required.
There is also a method called secondary machining, in which parts made by molding are machined in areas where precision is required, or additional drilling or square windows are needed.

cutting

Cutting means shaving a material using a blade to make it into a required size or shape. We use blades to cut plastic in the form of film, blocks, and round bars.
Cutting allows for fine dimensional accuracy and the ability to cut a variety of shapes, making it possible to manufacture parts with complex shapes.
However, plastic processing products that require high precision must be carefully considered in terms of the properties of the material and the effects on the material that occur during processing. Heat deformation and rigidity during processing can cause dimensional tolerance deviations, and humidity and temperature can affect the dimensions of some materials.
For simple shapes, mass production does not require much cost and time, so mass production can be done inexpensively by cutting. For complex shapes, time and cost are required. Depending on the quantity, a 3D printer may be used for modeling, or a mold may be fabricated and formed.
There is also a method called secondary cutting, in which parts made by molding are machined in areas where precision is required, or additional drilling or square windows are needed.

Usually, there is a limit to the number of plastics that can be bonded, and not all resins can be bonded.
The resins that can be bonded by OM are as follows
Acrylic
Vinyl chloride
PET
Polycarbonate
ABS
Epoxy glass
Each material requires a different adhesive, and since air bubbles will form on the bonded surface, it is necessary to clarify which points, such as cleanliness and strength, are necessary.
In some cases, a triangular bar called a reinforcing material may be inserted at the gluing point, since the strength will vary depending on the thickness of the board and which surface is to be glued on the drawing.

bending

Plastic films and acrylics can be bent.
The bending method differs between film and plate materials.
Film: Press processing
Plate: Heat bending
In the bending process, the actual bending drawing is unfolded, the dimensions are calculated, and then the material is bent again according to the drawing.
It is best to indicate the inner and outer dimensions on the drawing, since the dimensions of the unfolded drawing will change depending on the notation of the inner and outer dimensions. Since the film material is rolled, there will always be warping, so it is necessary to indicate the direction of the warp on the drawing to avoid problems if the warp is on either side.

punching

Thin plastic, film, and tape can be punched out using a press.
In the film punching method, a mold is made, set in the press, and then punched out with a blade.
There are three types of molds: the biku mold, the pinnacle mold, and the metal mold. The biku mold is based on wood, while the pinnacle mold and the main mold are based on metal, which affects cost, tolerance, durability, etc.
Please see the table at the end of this document for a comparison of each.

1. biku mold
The Biku mold is a wooden mold, made by laser-cutting plywood into the shape of the product and inserting a blade shaped by an automatic bending machine between the dug-in grooves.

2. pinnacle mold
The pinnacle die is metal-based, and the blade is made by machining, so there are no joints between the blades, making it suitable for punching out delicate curves and thin sheets.

The above dies are mainly used to die cut films and tapes.

3. Main die
This die is mainly used for parts requiring precise dimensions such as printed circuit boards. The die is divided into male and female parts, and plastic can be extracted by setting the two dies and pressing.
